New for 2015

So what's new for 2015?
We have chains suited to very low profile tyres. Provided you have 9mm clearance behind your wheels, we have chains to fit. Needless to say, as are all chains available from us, they are diamond patterned, the safest style of chain for you and your family. However, we take no responsibility should your car manual advise that chains should not be fitted. You hire these chains totally at your own risk.
We also have some new pants, especially suited to skiers. These are a shell pant - 10K waterproof and breathable, lined, but no insulation. And they have no side slits, like the ubiquitous overpants, and they look much better. Perfect for wearing with thermals on colder days, or on their own on warmer days on the trails. They are available in all sizes from small children to large adults.
Also for skiers, especially the big foots - we now have ski boots in sizes 49 and 50.
New for 2014

So what's new for this year?
We now hire out ski helmets for children ($8/day). The mountain is recommending their use on the toboggan run to protect little one's heads. Bike helmets really aren't suitable because they don't provide warmth and a beanie will neither fit underneath them or over the top of them. Also, the impact points of a bike helmet are different to the impact points of a ski helmet. A ski helmet will not only protect their heads, but keep them warm as well.
As usual, we have replaced a lot of our snow boots and clothing with new items. We try to renew these items every couple of years, so that the gear you hire is not only in tip-top condition, but also looks good.
2014 season about to kick off

Well, it's been a slow start to winter 2014. I hope you all enjoyed that warm May weather, but unfortunately, it didn't help with the snow situation.
But there is good news - next week - starting 23rd June, good snowfalls are forecast for Lake Mountain, just in time for the school holidays.
Unfortunately, Lake Mountain's web cams have been down since the 10th June, and do not show the extraordinary efforts they have made with snow-making on the main toboggan run. So, if you're thinking of bringing the kids up this weekend, don't hesitate - the snow is great and the crowds just won't be there.
As usual, we have a warm friendly shop with great gear sitting here waiting for you. The staff are on standby, so come on in.
Winter has arrived!

Well, it may be 2 months late, but winter has finally decided to come to Lake Mountain. Good snow falls today, and more snow is expected for the next few days. This will guarantee the best weekend of the season coming up. We're also expecting all those patient skiers to start flocking up.
Don't Despair

It's been a very ordinary season to date, with systems failing to deliver the white stuff. The mountain has valiantly defied the weather and continues to make snow to cover the toboggan runs. But nothing is as good as the real thing.
So this Friday (19th July) through to Sunday should see good snow falls at Lake Mountain, and signal that winter has finally begun, even if a month late.
So hang in there and stay glued to the web cams over the weekend. They should show lots of white.
Second week of the school holidays

Well, our long-waited system proved a bit of a fizzer for Lake Mountain. The temperature was right, but there was not nearly enough moisture to deliver enough snow.
However, the mountain continues to churn out lots of man-made snow, and holidaying school children and their families are having a great time. So don't let the web cams spoil the kids' fun for these school holidays. Come up and have a ball.
When will it snow?

Well, we told you there was likely to be snow this weekend. The only thing that's changed is that it will probably come a day earlier than we initially thought, but we're certainly not complaining! We're expecting Thursday's rain to turn to snow overnight and for it to snow for most of Friday and Saturday. This is what it should do.
There is a chance though, that the weather may be too much from the west and not enough from the south. We'll really only know as the system progresses. So check the webcams after 8am on Friday morning and then again during the next couple of days. What we want is lots of that white stuff. When is the best time to hit the snow after a snowfall? The first fine day after it - good snow and good weather - it doesn't get much better.
First week of school holidays

The weather charts aren't looking so favourable for the first week of the school holidays, but there is plenty of man-made snow for everyone to have a lot of fun with. On Saturday the 29th, the mountain will hold its annual Sprint X race. Come and watch these crazy skiers racing for real cash. Maybe it will inspire you to join them on your next trip!
Now, the weather outlook. Not so good for the next week, but then it looks like things will change for the better. There seems to be a monster system headed our way which should result in some pretty intense blizzards around about the weekend of 6th & 7th of July. Remember, you heard it here first! From the ski hire that understands snow and what you want.
If this comes off, the best time to go to the mountain for the school holidays would be mid week - 9th, 10th, 11th of July. Traditionally though, that is also the time the mountain gets busy. We'll keep you informed of the progress of this system as the time gets closer. In the meantime, come on up - there's plenty of man-made snow for all snow players.
Lots of snow

Despite the lack of natural snow, the mountain has been making heaps of snow with these bitterly cold nights. There are now 2 toboggan slopes fully covered with snow, so don't let the lack of natural snow stop you from making the trip.
Next week I understand they will be making snow for the skiers Sprint X race next weekend, and that should ensure plenty of snow on the ski school beginner area for the school holidays.
